25-06 and a 6.5 Grendel that are consistent 1/2" rifles in the Encore. I've never had a barrel from them that wouldn't shoot inside 1" and most are much better. They turn Green Mountain barrels in about 4-6 weeks. However, they'll use whatever you want - it just will take longer. They typically used Shilen blanks by default, but now use Green Mountain.
Virgin Valley didn't make it, but two of the principles formed Match Grade Machine and now I use them. They were negotiating to buy the business from Fred and the deal fell apart. It was composed of a group of men who worked for Bullberry. He'll whittle out a factory synthetic to work with his hanger bar, but it looks terrible.Įventually, I started using Virgin Valley. His custom tapers on Encores essentially limits you to his custom wood forends. While it works, it limits options a bit on forends. He is in love with his hanger bar system. It just all became too frustrating for me. Generally, it'd just be a case of them misreading the chicken scratch on the order ticket. He'd take care of you and fix problems, but I'd find there generally would be a problem. If you prefer a lighter weight barrel for any reason just specify the details when ordering. The Bull profile is considered optimum for both balance and accuracy in the already lightweight Contender these also match the modern G2 barrels from T/C. I've had them come with a different recoil pad than the one I wanted. Bullberry Contender/G2 barrels are most often made in a straight Bull profile. I've had stocks sets arrive the were supposed to be English Walnut, but were out of black. For example, the barrel would be a little short or longer than specified or it'd be a different a twist rate or it be setup for a four-hole rather than six-hole scope mount. After an agonizing wait, I'd get an order and something would would be incorrect. Additionally, while it may have improved of late, they aren't very well organized on the paperwork front. Historically, Fred has been very slow at delivering barrels. All the barrels I have shot were top performers and the have some gorgeous blanks for stocks. I've had a many of their barrels and stock sets too. Good luck with your search for your new barrel.Last I heard, they use Wilson Arms blanks. Great barrel, should have never modified it or sent it down the road. Later I removed the rib and tried a red dot, then a scope and I never shot more consistent with them than I did with the irons. It was accurate enough that I shot a few perfect scores with the old 10" vent rib barrel and it's iron sights. A 158 pushed as hard as I dared, with a max load of W296, hit those steel plates as hard a my buddies hot 240 grain 44 mag out of his 7.5" redhawk, bystanders couldn't tell a difference. Such a versatile cartridge, I used it for years in our woods walk events around here. I never got the opportunity to shoot a deer with one of those rounds but I'm sure they'd do their part if I did mine.
My favorite bullet for this work was the Sierra 110JHC.įor large game, I used either the Sierra 170JHC, Hornady 180XTP or a 180RNFP cast bullet. That 10" barrel will run them at 2,000fps which will absolutely make jello out of woodchuck, cuts crows in half and shoots fairly flat out to 150. I liked to use the 357 mag as a varminter with 110 grain bullets.

I'll be using it in Ohio for deer gun season on an antlerless whitetail, having taken a nice 8 point buck with the crossbow last week. - TC Contender G2 Accuracy Barrels® fit the TC Contender and G2 Contender frames. I love it! I mounted a Vortex 2-7 Diamondback scope, fitted a Boyds left hand thumbhole stock and forearm, and have a handy carbine that shoots MOA at 100 yards with handloads of 14.0 grains 2400 and 158 XTP at 1600fps +. Note: This is not a diss on the MGM barrel. Bonus time ! The 360 DW fits in the TC factory 357 Magnum no problem, cannot say the same for the MGM 357 Magnum Carbine barrel.īottom line look for a nice 10 inch TC factory 357 Magnum, you may get a twofer. Recently, I bought some Starline 360 DW brass and reloaded some ammunition. I like it and found it to be very accurate and easy to carry.
